Car and diesel repair cost estimator
Pick a repair, or enter a trouble code to load its likely repairs. Then adjust for your vehicle and the kind of shop. You get a realistic range to compare against a quote.
How these estimates work
The base ranges are rough 2026 US figures for an independent shop, built from typical parts prices and standard labor times. The vehicle, shop and area options apply simple multipliers. They are estimates, not quotes. Real prices depend on your exact engine, how rusty or tight the job is, and whether the shop finds more problems once it starts.
Tips before you pay for a repair
- Pay for diagnosis first. A good shop will test before replacing parts, and that fee is often the best money you spend.
- Ask whether the price includes parts, labor, shop supplies and tax.
- Check for recalls, service bulletins and extended emissions warranties. Federal law covers the catalytic converter and the engine computer for 8 years or 80,000 miles on 1995 and newer light-duty vehicles.
- For big jobs, get a second quote with the same part brand so you compare like for like.
